Giethoorn in autumn

Golden colours on the water, silent weekdays and, in October, the Bokkentocht and the Atelierroute. September is one of our loveliest months.

September to November

The calm returns

After the Gondelvaart at the end of August, things settle down noticeably. September still averages 18 °C and 5 hours of sunshine a day; the water is warm, the trees are turning and the terraces are open. October (14 °C) brings the autumn half-term and the finest colours; November is quiet and grey at 8 °C.

You can sail until sunset: around 19:30 at the end of September and, after the clocks change, around 17:15 at the end of October. So plan an autumn self-drive for the morning or early afternoon.

  • September: late summer without the crowds
  • October: autumn colours and half-term
  • Heated canal cruise every day
  • Off-peak discount up to 20%
