Hours of cycling fun
The area around Giethoorn is full of water, so you may come across a water bus or an aqueduct along the way, both typically Dutch. Routes are flat, quiet and beautiful.

Did you know?
The Weerribben-Wieden is the largest wetland of north-west Europe and was largely shaped by human hands through peat extraction.
Every Dutch person owns at least two bikes, cycle helmets are not compulsory and the Netherlands has more than 32,000 km of cycle paths.

Combining cycling and boating
The best day in Giethoorn combines water and land: an electric boat through the canals and across the Bovenwijde in the morning, then a bike ride through the Weerribben-Wieden in the afternoon. The cycle routes start at our door, are flat and mostly follow quiet dykes and cycle paths along the water. Our page on cycling in the area describes the best loops of 20 to 45 kilometres.
Collect your bikes at the boat rental at Zuiderpad 14A. Reserve ahead in high season; on quiet days you can simply walk in. Lock and helmet are included.

How much does a rental bike cost?
€ 10 per bike per day, whatever the size. Pay online or at the desk.

We have small bikes (26 inch) for children from about 1.30 m. Ask for a child seat when reserving; first come, first served.

Which route do you recommend?
The Giethoorn – Dwarsgracht – Jonen – Belt-Schutsloot loop (about 20 km) through the heart of the Weerribben-Wieden, with a small ferry on the way. More routes on the cycling page.
Can I rent a bike and a boat on the same day?
Yes, and we recommend it: book the boat online and reserve the bikes with it, so both are ready for you.
