The one-hour canal cruise is the easiest way to see Giethoorn: a heated boat with panoramic windows, a local captain who tells the stories and a ticket for € 10 per person. Departures are daily from our dock at Ds. T.O. Hylkemaweg 7.
Parking is free next to the dock, boarding is a few steps from the car, and one of our large cruise boats is wheelchair accessible. Come on a Monday or Tuesday, before 10:00 or after 16:00, and the village is at its quietest.

Getting here and getting around
By car: free parking at Ds. T.O. Hylkemaweg 7 (cruise, restaurant, Old Art Hotel) and at Zuiderpad 14A (rental boats). See getting here.
By public transport: bus 70 runs from Steenwijk station to Giethoorn in about 15 minutes and stops at Ds. Hylkemaweg, close to our dock. Pay with your bank card; no cash on board.
On foot: the Binnenpad is a flat 4.3 km path along the thatched farms, but it crosses many small bridges. Our accessibility page explains what is manageable with a rollator or wheelchair.
Coffee on the terrace
The restaurant at the dock: coffee and cake, lunch menus and a 2-course dinner for € 24.50, served on Delft Blue.

Is the canal cruise suitable for people who walk with difficulty?
Yes. The boat moors at a fixed dock, the crew helps you on board and one of our large boats is wheelchair accessible. Mention it when booking.
When is Giethoorn the quietest?
On weekdays, especially Monday and Tuesday, before 10:00 or after 16:00. July and August, weekends and holidays are the busiest.
How far is the car park from the boat?
Parking at Hylkemaweg 7 is next to the dock; it is a short, flat walk to the dock.
Does the cruise run in winter?
Yes. The cruise boats are heated and run year-round. In winter the village is at its quietest.
Can we come as a group of seniors?
Yes. Coach groups park on site, and we combine a private cruise with coffee, lunch or a buffet at the cruise dock. See the group page.
Can I steer a boat myself at my age?
Yes. The electric boats have a steering wheel and a simple handle, and you get an explanation at the dock. Prefer to relax? Take the cruise.
